No matter how old you are, you can dance. Whether you've danced before or never danced. Take lessons, join a health club and take Zumba Gold Fitness Classes. Sign up for dance class, any type of dance class: line dancing, latin, ballroom, tango, belly. Just keep your body moving, keep your joints moving and you'll reduce the aches and pains associated with aging. As we age, our bodies hurt when we don't exercise.
Years ago, I practiced meditation with Osho. It was called Dynamic Meditation and it was a moving meditation. It's explained as a type of dance that allows you to "explode! let go of everything that needs to be released. ............ hold nothing back, keep your whole body moving.
a little acting often helps to get you started. never allow your mind
to interfere with what is happening. be total."
I also studied Five Rhythms Dance with Gabrielle Roth. "Dance as a form of meditation is as old as civilization. Just think about the native American dances you have seen in movies. Or trance dances of the shamans in primitive societies in the Amazon. Irish folk dancing and even classical ballet are a kind of meditation for those who dance."
Music is healing. Music is meditation. Dancing is healing. Dancing is meditation. When you're dancing, you're unable to think fear thoughts. When you dance, what scares you doesn't exist.. You're unable to dance and stay worried. You're unable to dance and stay angry.
Dancing temporarily clears your mind of everything but the music and the dance steps. After an hour of dancing, whatever upset you when you came into the class, has now lost its charge. It doesn't seem to bother you as much as it did before you began your dance class. Dancing takes the edge off your emotions and has a calming effect. Dancing distracts you from the news, from the newspapers, from the sadness, from the world.
When I am upset about anything, I dance.
When my father was dying, I went home, put on my Zumba Fitness DVD and danced for 15 minutes and my energy shifted. I was able to return to hospice more centered, more present and focused on him.
When I am tired, I dance.
When I am frustrated, I dance.
When I am scared, I dance,
When my body aches, I dance.
Dancing has so many physical, emotional and spiritual effects, that you cannot be the same person, after you dance.
