ANTI-AGING BENEFITS OF DANCING (ballroom, latin, zumba fitness....)
People of all ages in every culture have been dancing from the time they are born. Ever watch a 2yr old when music is playing - they naturally move and shake and are totally uninhibited. We were uninhibited when we were babies and as we became socialized, we learned how to be self conscious and embarrassed.
Dancing has anti-aging benefits, according to a study by scientists at the Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center and Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The results of the study appeared in the February 13, 2002 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Read the rest of the article by clicking here.
The Einstein Aging Study, summarized in June 19, 2003 New England Journal of Medicine, found that dancing helps prevent dementia. Dementia in the study refers to both Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. Vascular dementia is the 2nd most common form of dementia after Alzheimer's.The study included participants in six brain-stimulating hobbies - reading, writing for pleasure, doing puzzles, board games or playing cards, group discussions and playing music. The study also included participants in 11 physical activities including team sports, swimming, bicycling and dance.Dance was the only physical activity that benefited the brain. This was attributed to the cerebral rather than the physical aspect of dance.
